The pre-opening VIP event of the 1st shopping centre in France located in front of one of the best performing IKEA store, took place in Bry-sur-Marne in the East of Paris, on March 16th, 2010.
Richard Vathaire IICG Managing Director for France, Spain, Portugal and Italy, Franck Cartier Regional development Manager and Stéphane Biarez Shopping Centre Manager welcomed all the guests for this historical moment in the life of the Company in France.
Some 700 people, including the town hall, local, departmental and government representatives, tenants, local associations, partners in the project and IKEA co-workers joined the IIC France team to celebrate this festive occasion.
Les Armoiries Shopping Centre, 20 500 sqm GLA, located in front of an existing IKEA store of the Paris district is dedicated to the family with a focus on women living and/or working in the area, which are the main part of the 3 millions visitors of the IKEA store.
After speeches of Richard, Franck, Stéphane, Bruno Lanthier Truffaut Managing Director, Mr Adenot Mayor of Champigny-sur-Marne, Mr Bénisti Mayor of Villiers-sur-Marne and Mr Spilbauer Mayor of Bry-sur-Marne, Jean-Pierre Spilbauer opened the centre to the public by cutting a SSB branded ribbon.
IKEA store FAMILY members could preview the shopping centre during the afternoon of March 16th. A special quiz was organized for them: the first price to win was a weekend in Stockholm for a family of 4 people. 2nd to 10th prices were IKEA vouchers of 100€.
Because of the social context at IKEA France, the press was invited to look at the centre one week before the opening. Many journalists covered the event and press articles are all mainly very positive with the centre.
